Summer is supposed to be a time of relaxation and rest. However, there are always ways we can be productive in our day! For me, productivity can mean washing all of my makeup brushes or planning out my month or catching up on my reading goals. I love spending my days in bed too, though. When I have a day full of tasks and just want to spend my morning in bed, these are the steps I take.
Disclaimer: This is what works for me and may not work for you. However, I feel it best to share my success stories just in case someone can benefit from it! So without further adieu, here are the steps I take to have a productive day –
Wake up and make a to-do list.
What are you trying to accomplish today? Is there anything you can do today to make your upcoming week easier – grocery shopping, outfit proper, etc? Grab your planner (check out my planner —> here) or your cutest stationary and PHYSICALLY write down what you have to do today.
If you don’t have a to-do list or a planner you like, here are some of my favorite printables –
- I like this watercolor and floral to-do list from “I Should Be Mopping the Floor”
- I use this minimal to-do list from Eliza Ellis all the time in my planner!
- Try to narrow down your to-do list to a manageable level! Emmy & Gabbie incorporate it in their weekly to-do lists.
GLAM YOURSELF UP, GIRL.
Look good, do good. Even though it sounds pretty pretentious and the last thing you want to do is dress up and put on a full face of makeup before a busy day, I promise you it will be worth it! Many other girls have my philosophy too from what I can see. You should see how to put together some girls look on big exam days at my university. All I can do is give them a big high-five and say, “we got this!” So pick out your prettiest outfit, glam up, and you’ll be ready to take on the day.
Beam your highlight, glue those lashes on…. and most importantly, kick today’s butt!
Eat a GOOD breakfast, pick up a coffee or a tea, and start categorizing your to-do’s.
Do the items on your to-do list fit in the same category? For example, do you have to do laundry /and/ deep clean your bedroom? If so, you can multitask! Put in a load and clean one section of your room until the load is over. Then, rinse and repeat! Or, do you have a lot of computer-based things to do today like assignments and paying bills? Go to your local coffee shop and change your scenery!
Plan out your time. It’s okay to jump from task to task!
Deep cleaning a bedroom can be overwhelming. So, maybe see if you can take a break from your larger tasks and switch to your smaller tasks for an hour. One of the biggest tips I have ever gotten about productivity is that *it’s okay to take breaks* . Take as many breaks as you need. As long as you check off everything on your to-do list, you’re golden honey!

Use a small reward as an incentive to finish your tasks for the day!
Lastly, treat yourself! My mom thinks I say that too much in my lifetime but that is truly how I get myself to do so many things in one day! These rewards could be costless like a long relaxing bath or a shameless Bachelorette marathon! My favorite reward is a bubble tea at the end of the day. I swear once you have an incentive in place… you will miraculously finish your tasks 3x faster.
Congratulations, you did it! You finished all of your tasks today! If this system worked for you, please tell me how your day went and how you were feeling throughout the day. This post is all about self-discipline and I feel like learning how to discipline yourself is an ever-growing process. You are a work in progress ladies and gentlemen. Please be patient with yourselves!
